The largest MRO provider in the US selects Megadoor for their Rockford facility. /AAES/US/case-studies/images/AAMGDTest.JPG ASSA ABLOY proudly provided Megadoor vertical lifting fabric doors for the two new A380 capable hangars located at Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD). The new Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility will be leased by AAR, which is the largest MRO provider in the United States. The 200,000 square-foot facility is expected to operate 24 hours a day and will greatly expand the airport’s infrastructure. The AAR team first utilized Megadoors on another massive hangar they leased from the Chennault Airport in Louisiana. Based on their previous experience, AAR in conjunction with the airport, specified Megadoors for the new Rockford facility. Cost Efficient design The design team was able to dramatically reduce the eave height of the hangar structures by incorporating a stepped 5-part Megadoor, shaped to the potential aircraft utilizing the hangar. This not only reduces the initial structure cost, but also significantly reduces the interior volume of the facility. Work Environment Studies show climate control and natural lighting are important factors in workforce productivity and retention. Megadoors facilitate a cost effective climate controlled facility, even in the harsh Rockford winters, with their unique seals and vertical lifting design. Megadoor air leakage rates are the lowest in the industry and air leakage is commonly the most significant factor in energy loss. Cold weather performance The Megadoor was invented in the north of Sweden and has earned a reputation for reliability around the world in arctic and sub-arctic conditions. Snow and ice do not impact the door system as it operates in the vertical plane.
