Environmental Engineer

Job Duties & Requirements (included but not limited to the following):

  • Maintains liaison and negotiates environmental permits for new and existing company locations with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.

  • Ensures all environmental permit requirements are implemented and maintained, including recordkeeping and reporting.

  • Reviews capital projects, manufacturing process changes, and current and new raw materials for environmental requirements.

  • Conducts periodic environmental audits, including storm water, SPCC, and hazardous waste, to ensure continued compliance with all applicable requirements.

  • Investigates environmental complaints, regulatory orders, and citations; Prepares responses to the agencies involved and informs management of compliance status.

  • Identifies, assesses, and reduces company environmental risks and costs through implementation of improvement projects.

  • Stays abreast of relevant future environmental legislation and requirements, communicates those to management, and implements processes and procedures necessary to comply.

  • Trains staff at all levels in environmental issues and responsibilities.

  • Report sustainability indicators on a quarterly basis to management. Track monthly sustainability indicators to monitor improvements.

  • Identify opportunities for continual manufacturing sustainability improvements (energy reduction, waste reduction, emission reductions, etc.) to meet ASSA ABLOY Sustainability Goals, and implement projects to deliver results.

  • Manage the ISO 14001:2015 certification and corresponding Environmental Management Systems, as well as Greencircle certifications for sustainable manufacturing processes.

  • Continually promotes a safe and harmonious working environment, demonstrating strict adherence to the ASSA ABLOY Code of Conduct and ASSA ABLOY Health & Safety Policy

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Environmental Sciences


  • Two or more years' experience within a manufacturing environment preferred

  • Knowledge and experience with Title V air permitting requirements

  • Knowledge and experience with RCRA hazardous waste regulations

  • Experience with ISO 14001 implementation and compliance desired


  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop effective teams without direct control.

  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills

  • Ability to multi-task & handle tasks with competing priorities

  • Proven analytical and problem solving skills

  • Effective and efficient use of Microsoft office programs

  • Change agent with energy, passion & enthusiasm
