Safe and efficient operations Recently, Volvo Cars successfully completed an expansion and renewal of their facility in Gothenburg, Sweden. One of the reasons being the production of the new Volvo XC90, which meant increased volumes. Even before anyone got the chance to try out the new car, the company received close to 30,000 pre-orders. The renewal of the plant continues to make place for new production lines. Producing cars in an automated manufacturing and assembly facility requires advanced technology, processes and equipment. High safety for staff is a primary focus, as well as smooth and efficient operations. Machine guarding doors for increased flow and productivity ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems provided a large number of high-performance doors to the Volvo Car plant, including doors for machine protection. One of the door models used in the production line for the Volvo XC90 is the Albany RP300; a heavy-duty machine guarding door designed for automated processes and production lines. Machine guarding doors offer protection for staff working close to automated manufacturing processes. The safety concept of these high-speed roll-up doors allows a compact production setup, being installed at short distance from the automated machines. Fast opening- and closing-cycle times also increase product flow and process productivity.
